HOME EXTENSION OVERVIEW:
Only recently completed, this individually designed home extension is utilised as a
children's playroom and occasional summer dining area. The extension is incredibly light
and well-ventilated, whilst at the same time being extremely highly insulated. The
combination of large Argon filled double glazed windows and doors permits exceptional
ventilation in the summer months and a very high degree of thermal insulation during
the winter period. The large glass areas also encourage solar gain in the winter months
thereby reducing the need for heating within this area making this home extension an
extremely low energy design.
The doors and windows were imported from Denmark and are made from certified pre-
treated timber to provide a long and maintenance free life. The window design was
chosen to closely match the existing home and also to respect the use of traditional side-
hung casements that can be commonly seen within the nearby conservation area.
The roof structure was initially designed by the client's architect before being
'rationalized' and manufactured by a specialist timber frame company from green oak,
once again certified by the FSC/PEFC, making this a very sustainable home extension. |
